How to Get Rid of Lice With Ivermectin Lotion

Head lice are very contagious. They can easily spread from person to person. The critters are also annoying because they make you itch. However, excessive scratching can lead to skin irritation, which may result into an infection.

A head louse survives from sucking your blood. It needs around five blood meals a day and lay from six to eight eggs a day. For these reasons, lice removal is a must, because they can multiply fast. Head lice usually lives from 30 to 40 days. Read on to find out how to get rid of lice with ivermectin lotion.

What Is Ivermectin Lotion?

Ivermectin lotion works by killing lice. It is a prescription medication that comes in lotion form. The ingredients include water, olive oil, citric acid, shea butter, Crodalan AWS (an emollient), oleyl alcohol, lanolin alcohol, cyclomethicone, propylparaben, sorbitan tristearate, and methylparaben.

How Does It Work?

This lotion is applied to dry hair. You want to put a generous amount on your scalp and hair. It should be left on for 10 minutes and then rinsed with warm water. This treatment is not used with a comb. After applying the ivermectin lotion, you should carefully wash your hands.

You will need to go to the lice clinic several times to have your scalp examined. Your doctor needs to make sure that the lice are gone.  It takes from seven to 10 days for a louse egg to hatch and another seven to 10 for the louse to mature. For these reasons, you should keep checking for lice for two weeks.

Who Can Use This Treatment?

Ivermectin lotion can be used to treat lice in patients from 6 months to adults. It is a very effective treatment and usually takes one application. If you are worried about using ivermectin lotion on a baby, then you can ask for a lower dosage.

Head lice are dependent upon humans, which means you must cut off their life source. They need the warmth of your body and food supply. Lice or eggs cannot live for long after being removed from your head.

If one person in your house has lice, then everyone in the home should get treated at the same time. You want to prevent new infestations. It helps to understand that you can get lice from heads touching, clothing, hair accessories, brush, combs, bedding, blankets, pillowcases, and sleeping beds.
