4 Tips To Help You Recover From A Sinus Infection

Do you have a sinus infection? You may be experiencing some of the worst symptoms of the infection, such as congestion and head pain. If your nose is not congested, it might be runny instead. Nearly 37 million people per year who live in the United States end up experiencing a sinus infection. If you are tired of experiencing the symptoms and feeling terrible, there are many steps you can take in an attempt to recover from the infection a bit faster.

1. Use as Much Steam as Possible

Steam is known to naturally help clear congestion, which means getting a hot shower could potentially help you clear out your nostrils and help you breathe better. If there is a lot of steam in the bathroom while you are showering, you may notice that your nose does not feel nearly as congested as it did beforehand.

Showering is not the only way to enjoy the natural benefits of steam. You can boil a pot of water on the stove, set it down on a table as soon as it starts to boil, and then carefully place your face over the pot to allow the steam to work its way up your nasal passage. If you want to maximize the effectiveness, you can place a towel over your head while leaning over the water to lock the steam in so that it hits you directly. By using steam regularly, you may be able to clear out the congestion at a faster pace.

2. Apply Heat to Your Head With a Homemade Compress

If your head is bothering you, applying light heat could help you get some relief. You can make your own homemade hot compress by placing two cups of rice on top of a soft hand towel. Grab each corner of the hand towel, bring them together and then tie a knot tightly to keep the rice locked inside of the towel. You can then place the hand towel in your microwave for about 30 seconds or until it is warm enough for you. As soon as the towel gets warm, simply find a good place to rest and place it on your head while you relax.

3. Make Your Own Natural Juice Beverage

Healthy homemade juices may give you a boost of energy and improve the way you are feeling. Some fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation. You can create your own juice using one large carrot, one sweet potato, a handful of blueberries, and a green apple. Not only will the juice have a sweet and flavorful taste, but it can work wonders on your immune system. There are plenty of other fruits and veggies that you can use for juicing purposes, such as oranges, kiwis, and beets.

4. Visit a Physician and Ask for Antibiotics

Some sinus infections are worse than others. If you feel like you have been dealing with the infection for longer than a week and it is not getting any better with the different remedies you have tried, it is best to visit your primary physician to discuss the symptoms directly. You can ask your physician for antibiotics to help you recover from the infection. One of the most common antibiotics prescribed to patients who are suffering from a sinus infection is amoxicillin.

You may be feeling under the weather because of a sinus infection. If you would like to do what you can to recover from the infection a bit faster, consider using plenty of steam, applying a hot compress to your head, juicing with fresh veggies and fruits, and even getting prescription antibiotics from your physician. These different options can work to clear congestion, strengthen your immune system, and ultimately help you get better.
